Zombie Reddy 2 Prasanth Varma and the Zombie Reddy world

Creator of the 2021 original — still in the writers’ room, not in the director’s chair.

Last updated:

Prasanth Varma

Prasanth Varma is the reason this franchise exists and not the person calling “action” on Zombie Reddy 2. That sentence is the whole 2026 confusion in one line. Trade stories from 2025 still had him directing the People Media Factory film. The August 2026 title video superseded them: Created by Prasanth Varma. Directed by Suparn S Varma. This page keeps those jobs apart so a sidebar from last year does not overwrite a credit block.

The lyrical above is the 2021 theme, not a sequel cue. It is here because Prasanth’s original is a mass-comedy with rifles and a designer hero, and that motif is what he is being paid to protect as creator. For the 2027 camera, go to Suparn S Varma. For the full crew list, production.

What he made in 2021

Zombie Reddy was his third feature after Awe (2018) and Kalki (2019). Teja Sajja’s first lead. First Telugu zombie film, sold as such. A Rayalaseema wedding plus a vaccine-lab accident plus two clans who would rather shoot than share a well. Critics at The Hindu heard the satirical potpourri; Film Companion heard an uneven third act that turned devout. Both takes are on the original review. The plot spine is on the plot recap.

He did not only write a bite. He wrote a designer whose unfinished game crashes at higher levels. That is the sentence NXT LVL is now wearing as a joystick. If Prasanth had left the project entirely, the logo would be a random gamer sticker. He did not leave. He stayed as creator and co-writer with Hussain Dalal, Abbas Dalal, and Suparn.

Why the sequel has a different director

After Zombie Reddy he and Teja made Hanu-Man (2024), a real scale jump, and he remains attached to that universe’s next chapter. Directing two giant sequels at once is a scheduling argument as much as an aesthetic one. People Media Factory still wanted his world. They hired Suparn for staging. June 2026 Great Andhra reporting even called the ZR2 director “a newcomer” while the story stayed with Prasanth — stale on the name, right on the split of labour.

Teja, in a 2025 India Today interview, said the first film never reached its potential because they were newcomers. NXT LVL is that admission with a bigger cheque. Prasanth owning the admission in the writers’ room is how Mario stays Mario instead of turning into a generic slayer. More on the actor: Teja Sajja.

What he is not doing

He is not the 2027 director. He is not the producer of record (that is TG Vishwa Prasad and Krithi Prasad). He is not composing (Gowra Hari). He is not playing a cameo that has been announced. If a fan page lists “Prasanth Varma’s Zombie Reddy 2” as a directed-by credit, it is a year out of date. Cross-check the title announcement.

How to follow him on this wiki

World and joke: this page plus original vs sequel. Camera and Hyderabad nights: Suparn. Songs: soundtrack. Cast math: cast hub. When a first look names a 2021 character he created — Sailaja, Maggie, Bhadram — it will be marked on the original cast page, not guessed here.

Prasanth Varma’s value to readers is simple. He invented the lane. He is still in it. He is not driving the truck this time. That is enough to stop mixing the two credits.

Is Prasanth Varma directing Zombie Reddy 2?

No. He created the original and co-writes the sequel. Suparn S Varma directs. See production.

What else did he make with Teja Sajja?

*Hanu-Man* (2024). That film is a different universe. Do not merge it into Zombie Reddy geography.
